“We can conceive of our existence as uninteresting, but not of ourselves as nonexistent. What photography provides is this necessary evidence of destiny and kinship. The reality trapped on the piece of paper is an infinite temporal extension of a self that has already lived a life and now takes the form of a personal, unmistakably private dream.”

Francois Cheval, curator of the Nicephore Niepce Museum, France, from the introduction to the exhibition « Here, Beyond the Mists »

From the former Soviet Union to the United States to France: a life path that scorns borders testifies to Alexandra Catiere’s striving for universality. This young photographer has made timelessness a salient feature of an oeuvre that revives the humanistic tradition in a virtuoso capturing of sensation and atmosphere. Never settling simply for portrait or reportage, Alexandra uses the camera to express her empathy with human nature and, most of all, with life itself.
